The Classroom Management & Instructional Strategies (CM&IS) Program is evaluated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program.  The following evaluations’ provide strong evidence of the benefits to teachers who have completed the CM&IS professional learning program.

Teachers participating in the CM&IS program demonstrate measurable improvement in their confidence and capacity to manage the behaviour of students in their classes

Pre survey and post survey evaluation

Participants are surveyed using a pre survey and post survey service tool developed by Dr Tim McDonald, Program Director Secondary, Edith Cowan University.
Respondents are given the same 18 questions before and after completion of the CM&IS professional learning program and asked to indicate their perception of confidence and skill level by selecting the most appropriate statement from the following:

  1. I feel in control of my class
  2. I feel that I use effective classroom strategies
  3. I feel that the classroom management strategies I use are appropriate to the type of misbehaviour displayed by my students

Responses from participants who completed the first 2005 CM&IS program indicated:

  • Question 1: I feel in control of my class
53% of respondents indicated that they felt more in control of their classes
  • Question 2: I feel that I use effective classroom management strategies
73% of respondents indicated that they felt an increase in their use of effective classroom management strategies
  • Question 3: I feel that the classroom management strategies I use are appropriate to the type of misbehaviour displayed by students
69% of respondents felt an increase in the appropriateness of their classroom management strategies
