Primary Behaviour Centres (PBC)

Primary Behaviour Centres provide specialist outreach support services to assist public primary schools to manage and engage students with severe challenging behaviour.

Severely challenging behaviour is defined as:

  • behaviours that threaten the safety of staff or students (including self-harming)
  • disruptive behaviours that are ongoing in nature, and are not improved using existing behaviour management strategies.

Primary Behaviour Centres provide intensive targeted practical support to individual schools statewide.  The five PBCs are located in:

  • Canning
  • Fremantle
  • Peel
  • Swan
  • West Coast.

Support services provided

By providing schools with on-site support, the Primary Behaviour Centres enhance the capacity of teachers and schools to manage students with challenging behaviour through:

  • highly intensive direct in-class support
  • consultation to schools
  • small group work with students
  • provision of staff training
  • developing and maintaining links with district education office student services teams
  • case conferencing and liaison with interagency partners
